About Savannah River Academy

Who we are:

Savannah River Academy was created by a group of passionate parents, teachers, and administrators who believed that our area needed another option for education. What began as a dream quickly became an enthusiastically supported and welcomed educational experience.

What we are not:

Savannah River Academy is not a typical private school; it is not a charter school or a public school.

What we are:

SRA was created specifically to be different. It is a non-sectarian, fully accredited private school offering both full-time enrollment, and a hybrid enrollment option to parents of homeschoolers who are looking for only core class enrollment. SRA’s educational model emphasizes a collaborative approach between parents and teachers, as well as the importance of allowing kids to be kids. For this reason, Savannah River Academy teachers follow current research that tells us that, contrary to what we have previously believed, children do not benefit from assigned homework before the 6th grade. We also offer a specialized dyslexia program led by experienced, Orton-Gillingham trained teachers. Please get in touch with us directly for more information if your child has been diagnosed with dyslexia, or if you would like to learn more about dyslexia screening by our certified Barton screener.

When we are:

At SRA, we have small learning groups engaged in hands-on learning at the student’s own pace, using a customized education plan. This small group atmosphere will allow teachers and students to cover much more material in a shorter period; therefore, our days will be shorter. Core classes are covered Monday – Thursday, 8:15 am-12:30 pm. We do realize that this model and pace will not work for every child, so our experienced administrators take great care during the admissions process to ensure that a contract will only be offered if it appears that your child would be a good fit for this model. For parents who would prefer their students to participate in full-time enrollment, SPARC (Special Programs After Regular Classes) offers additional rotating enrichment classes from 1:00 to 3:30 pm, and Focus Fridays include field trips, STEM activities, community service projects, etc., from 8:15 am to 3:30 pm.
